CDCP Renewal for 2025: What St. Albert Patients Need to Know

Dentist St. Albert

If you were approved for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) in 2024 or 2025, you need to renew your coverage for 2026. Renewal is required every year to keep your dental benefits.

This guide explains what to do and when, so you don't lose coverage.

Why You Need to Renew Your CDCP

The Government of Canada reviews CDCP eligibility every year. This reassessment checks your income and whether you have other dental insurance. If you don't renew, your coverage will stop.

Step 1: File Your 2025 Tax Return

Before you can renew for 2026, you must:

  • File your 2025 tax return
  • Receive your 2025 Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
  • Wait for a renewal letter or notice from the Government of Canada (by mail or in your My Service Canada Account)

You cannot renew until your tax return has been processed.

Step 2: Renew by June 1, 2026

It's best to renew as soon as you receive your renewal instructions.

What Information You Will Need

When renewing, you may be asked to confirm or update:

  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Your CDCP client number
  • Your mailing and home address
  • Your marital status or household details (if changed)
  • Your phone number and email
  • Any other dental coverage you have (government or private)

Make sure your information is accurate to avoid delays.

What Happens After You Renew

After you submit your renewal, Service Canada will review your application. You will receive a confirmation letter that explains:

  • If you are approved for the new benefit year
  • Your coverage start date (usually July 1, 2026)
  • Your co-payment level (0%, 40%, or 60%), based on your 2025 family income

Keep this letter for your records. Your dental clinic may ask to confirm your coverage details.

What If You Don't Renew or No Longer Qualify?

If you do not renew or you no longer meet the eligibility rules:

  • Your CDCP coverage will end on June 30, 2026
  • You will need to pay for dental care unless you have other insurance
  • If you renew after June 30, your coverage may restart, but there will be a gap and past visits will not be reimbursed
